My experience with Lemmy.ca is that it is mostly about american politics. It might be my subscriptions though, not sure.
Uh, welcome?
Sounds like you just said "how 'bout them brown people "?!
i dunno, a lot of western lemmings are lowkey racist.
If I can’t read what’s in it I’ll just keep scrolling.
Eh, you can post, but people might just ignore it. So you’re screaming into the void for the most part.
I’m a native Cantonese and Mandarin speaker, we have a Asian Diaspora comm, but most Lemmings are white westerners, so it’s not gonna get much traction… but I mean… it’s there… I don’t think anyone has a problem with that.
I almost never post anything in Chinese because 1.4 billion of them are behind a firewall and they’ll never find small platforms like the Fediverse.
I’m planning to post some poetry stuff in bilingual English and Chinese, like… its good emotional release… kinda therapudic for myself using multiple languages to engage the brain’s emotions in multiple parts of the brain, only posting for personal reason tho, idc if anyone actually reads it. I don’t have any friend to share it with, my stuff would be too political for Mainland Chinese internet.
Just post it, find the right community for it, if someone hates it, they have a block button for that community, or use word-blocking filters.
咁我都用廣東話打字,逼佢哋用網上翻譯器先!
好搞笑 https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=97&v=jxA4xQbDcyE (starts at 1:37)
Only Cantonese people will get it 😆 (粗口 warning)

It’s rue for most community, I would say. But it’s truer for non-English speaking one (looking at my tiny French speaking instance). We really lack a tad more users ;)

You can be assured I would happily read (a lot) more poetry around here. Even more if it’s not in English and even even more so if it helps me decide it’s time I start learning Chinese—something I’ve been considering for… too many years… and now feel a bit too old to do (stupid me speaking)
In regards to readership and as a side note: I would not say I don’t care if people are reading it or not myself, but I’m ok with the idea of being my own reader. Which is one of the reasons I reopened a blog a few years ago: it helps me put some order in my head.

This.
Also, to the OP: Lemmy (the Fediverse) is not owned by anyone nor by a single country, or culture. So, there is not one culture that is expected to be an ‘accepting host’. We’re all sharing the same space and doing our best to make it a nice place… which can work quite well provided all of us, as individuals, are welcoming to one another ;)
Thank you for your words of encouragement. I actually feel a lot better now lol, no joke.
I think just the idea of having a platform I can make anti-government content and not get censored is just beautiful. I feel sad for my compatriots in Mainland China getting censored by that shitty government.

No excuse remaining, then. Start posting that poetry! ;)
Ps: I meant it. I would happily read more poetry online, and I’m willing to bet my cup of morning coffee I’m not alone.
We accept everyone here*
*
Everyone who runs the correct version of Linux, except if they use the wrong text editor.
NixOS and I use Helix, Neovim and Emacs (in that order of preference)
Except that person that uses thorns in their comments. Apparently, this is not acceptable to a lot of people and they automatically downtove them.
Debian and nano?
Is openSUSE and Neovim ok?

Excellent choice. You’re going places!
Why can’t you just use a butterfly to manipulate bits like a normal adult?
Kids these days with their fancy pants editors. SMH.
The word is “Western.” You’re asking about non-Western content, and the answer is: It is if you have more than like three members of your target audience, but that tends to be a tall ask around here.
They didn’t exclude Mexico, Central America or South America.
Yeah because those aren’t Western.
found the american
But he didn’t exclude Australia and New Zealand.
Europe and the Colonial Projects (dibs on the band name)
Pretty accepting.
None of the posts I’ve seen from outside the americas and Europe are treated differently than the American and European posts
Perhaps less engagement due to a smaller relevant audience, which you’ll also see with posts from many niche American and European communities.
Well now us white Australasians are feeling left out. then again there is a whole subreddit dedicated to maps with out new zealand so we are sort of used to it.
New what?
It depends if your post is cool.
There’s not much content to even say if there’s resistance against them if any. I suppose people blocking contents in foreign language they can’t read counts as one though.
I’m happy to see posts from other than USian, EU, CAN. And I’m just one Lem.
Try some and let’s find out.
There seems to be a popular community ich_el I think. For German memes… I don’t understand a word of it but it has multiple posts a day.
I looked it up https://feddit.org/c/ich_iel
