Lol, I just saw your reply on n my inbox, and I thought you were that person I just responded to with a screenshot of me tagging them with “probably has ten toes”
Voyager is another
What do you have against sealions? I would like to have a civil conversation about your statement. Would you mind showing me evidence of any negative thing any sealion has ever done to you? I’m just curious if you have any sources to back up your opinion.
(please tag me as generally not being serious. Have a spectacular day)
They are. You just have to enable user tags in the Settings:
Let me know if I need to edit the tag I have for you.
Yes. Multiple reasons. Mostly to keep track of traits for good or bad, such as people who have proven to be aware of nuance and capable of level headed debate VS for example tankies and conspiracy theorists.
I also tag my fellow countrymen (There are dozens of us!)
You haven’t earned a tag yet. That’s not necessarily a bad thing.
neidu3@sh.itjust.worksto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What are the minimum or recommended requirements for a personal home server?English1·7 days agoAnything that does the job is good enough. At its core a server is just a regular PC with a dedicated purpose and software. Sure, there are specialized hardware better suitable and purpose built, but it’s not a requirement.
I for one prefer 19" rackmount stuff with disk bays in the front, but that’s more of a convenience than anything.
UPS is nice, but it’ll work without it.
I’ve had to deal with the Brazilian computer market and how it’s ridiculously overpriced due to import fees, so in your situation I’d just get any hand-me-down computer. Servers generally don’t require much unless you’re doing something special or intensive.
Get your hands on whatever you can find for free or dirt cheap (laptop or desktop doesn’tmatter), install linux, and you have a basic setup that you can work with. If your use case requires more, then that’s something you can accommodate in the next iteration of your server.
neidu3@sh.itjust.worksMto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•My dearest Lemmy, what is the appliance you have the most beef with?English1·18 days agoPrinters. There is no excuse for (consumer) printers to be as shitty as they are.
There are reasons, but none of them are excuses: If patent hell wasn’t a main obstacle put in place by the large printer manufacturers, I am sure open source hardware alternative would’ve forced industry improvements ages ago.
