I got banned from a bar once, because I refused to give them my water bottle. Which I entered with it empty. Which I filled up in front of staff

I wasn’t even there to drink, they just have a nice arcade section I used to regular

Various Wetherspoons in England, because I hated queuing for the girls loo, so I’d just run into the men’s. Apparently they don’t like when you do that.

I’m banned from a local martial arts dojo. The soke always told the same stories about his teachers and also has a rule that he won’t teach anyone with a criminal record.

I did some digging on one of his teachers and found that he killed someone in cold blood and took a plea that threw his teacher under the bus. His teacher was convicted of murder and the soke’s teacher was convicted of manslaughter for his role.

I called him out for being a hypocrite because he won’t teach criminals, but has no problem being a student of a criminal.

He sent me an email telling me that I was no longer welcome in his class.

Don’t know if I was ever banned but I was definitely asked to leave a go kart track when I was about 10 or 11. It was a kids track with only a few karts to choose from but they weren’t even as far as performance went. I had picked one that turned out to be slower than one another boy chose, so he kept lapping me as we were driving around. I’ve always been very competitive so I was just getting madder and madder as this smug little shit kept passing me even though I was pedal to the metal, so I made a decision. One lap as he was just about to pass me I wrenched my steering wheel to the side and ran him off the track. I was, of course, spotted by an attendant who stopped me and brought me over to my very embarrassed parents then asked us all to leave. I don’t think the other kid was hurt, but I didn’t care enough at the time to check so he might have been.

I’ll do my best to give a brief answer. Please know that I’m not your legal council, and my advice is limited to my experience (which may be different from your own).

If you have a DUI from 10+ years ago, it is possible that your inimitability has been automatically lifted. If your DUI was more than 5+ years ago, you are eligible for a few methods of entry into Canada. You can apply for a “temporary residence permit”, which is as complicated as it sounds with forms and statements and an approval process. Another route is what Canada calls “criminal rehabilitation”, which is an evaluation process that unflags your ID and makes you indistinguishable from any other American.

Keep in mind that the Canadian border is managed by people who want a smooth workday. Unless you give them a good reason, they’ll at least be disappointed to reject your admission. More than likely, they would have information to help you get certified to cross. That being said, if you have a strong history of DUI and show up at the border in a MAGA truck with a shitty disposition and no preparation whatsoever… they might unceremoniously tell you to have more respect for Canada (and the world, with your Republican jihad).

Certain things may help you at the border. A license plate and residence in a northern border state might put you in an easy pass category. Preparedness goes a LONG way, even if you don’t have the latest trend in legal passes you are still dealing with human beings. Because we’re dealing with human beings, it deserves to be said that we’re in a colorized world and Canadians are just as prone to colorism when choosing who to admit. I recommend keeping this in mind if you aren’t privileged to pass in daily life, because you do still need to be extra extra ready to present yourself, my friends.

Above all, after you get into Canada it is important to respect the road and avoid driving under the influence. Not only is this where your head should be at, but it is also the best way to ensure a continuation of the good relationship between yourself and Canada (and the United States with her closest sister, Canada). An incident in-country will result in penalties that could last a lifetime, and for good reason; you might get expelled, or you might become a resident of Canada’s legal system for a very long time. To say it plainly, if you act a fool on Canada’s roads you might see the same 10x5 patch of Canadian prison concrete for the next decade.

        Okay… that’s all I got.

One Irish Pub (popular chain here in France/Europe) in Avignon cause I puked all over the counter. Although I assume they’ve forgotten cause it was about 10 years ago… but I also haven’t drank in about 5 years so it’s not like I care, lol.

… … Caitlyn Jenner? I know she had a hit and run scandal, and her daughters are a plague on humanity. I can’t imagine carving out space in my mind to villainize her, though.

Dang. I learned something! Before today, I hadn’t heard the term “TERF” (and I find it immediately useful, so thank you). Also, I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around how Jenner could even take that stance. Like wow…

Just remembered I got banned from Fark many years ago for posting this image (nsfw?) of a girl in a bodypainted soccer uniform without a NSFW tag. The reason was that unclothed nipples broke Fark’s rules. They didn’t buy my argument that in this case the bodypaint was as good as cloth. A mod explained that the NSFW tag was to keep people from getting fired while surfing Fark at work if their boss walked by and saw their screen. I argued that from that distance nobody could tell it wasn’t a uniform or a swimsuit, and the nipple standard didn’t achieve their purpose anyway, because an image with daring cleavage would be permissible even though a passing boss could easily recognize it from walking-by distance. At that point, rather than respond further they just made my temp ban permanent.

But the story had a happy ending! Somehow I found out about a new site called bannination.com, created by banned Farkers, using all-original code written by a guy named “grahams” in the UK. For a couple years I was an avid user of that site - which we affectionately called bN. The community was small - only a thousand or so members. Several people who met there actually got married. Then grahams finally got tired of running the server and shut it down. Apparently somebody got the domain name and it now points to something I can’t even take a guess at. Anyway for that brief time window bN was a super free place and we had a lot of fun.

DUDE… In my freshman year at Texas A&M I took a radio class that gave us studio time. This was live ClearChannel radio for my entire town. When I ran out of stuff to say, I would go on Fark and start reading the news.

You are the first person I’ve ever heard mention this site, since 2006. Crazy nostalgia right now!

Nice! Fark still exists but I only look at it a couple times a year now. It’s like if there was a single reddit sub or lemmy community called “Miscellaneous”. Weird Fark memory - for photoshop contests I made a hobby of putting Wil Wheaton into images.

I am banned from an hospital and a country.

No, I was not an unruly patient, but instead called out their bullshit as a healthcare provider working with them. And reported them. Which lead to them banning me. Which funny enough is illegal here as well.

And I am banned from entering Turkey. Turkish airlines nearly killed me during a flight by having some sharp pieces in my food. Had a gastric bleed from it,including a hospital stay in a foreign country. Well. My travel insurance sued them and thinks got ugly. In parallel the political party I then was a somewhat active member of back then (as in “running for state parliament”-levels) was getting in arguments with Erdogan. So one day I received a letter by my foreign department that I specifically should not enter Turkey or I might see a Turkish prison from the inside.

I’ve been banned from Ravelry for many years and I have no idea why. They used to not message people when they got moderated, so I haven’t got a clue 🤷.
