No, I don’t even know what that is.

Lovable Sidekick@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do movies always get wrong about your job/hobby?English1·3 days agoGood point. To be fair they’re also celebrating a culture that was in place for quite a while before the actual war, which the war was trying to preserve.
Lovable Sidekick@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do movies always get wrong about your job/hobby?English0·4 days agoThe amount of cultural energy Americans have put into the old west cowboy era is amazing when you realize it only lasted 25 or 30 years, between the Civil War and the 1890s. All the classic westerns are set in that brief window of time. I think many people have the impression that whole generations lived and died during that era.
Lovable Sidekick@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do movies always get wrong about your job/hobby?English0·5 days agoIf you broaden it a little from job/hobby to living in the real setting of a movie, you’ll notice characters going places that make no sense at all. Like if it’s Seattle they might start a boating scene on Lake Union and ends up at Mercer Island, swinging by Alki beach on the way.
Lovable Sidekick@lemmy.worldto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•This gives me an ideaEnglish1·6 days agoIt just lets one person know the other person is thinking about them, but without the arduous burden of sending a text. “I love you but typing. is. haaard. So I’ll just touch this lamp lol.”
Lovable Sidekick@lemmy.worldto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•This gives me an ideaEnglish2·6 days agoI think this is called friendship lamps or touch lamps. They’re connected online and when one person touches their lamp the other person’s lamp lights up or changes in some way. There are a few Arduino/ESP projects for making these, or you can buy them. They’re promoted as a way to keep a long distance relationship going.
Lovable Sidekick@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are you banned from somewhere fun (casino, theme park, resort, cruise, etc)?English0·9 days agoNice! Fark still exists but I only look at it a couple times a year now. It’s like if there was a single reddit sub or lemmy community called “Miscellaneous”. Weird Fark memory - for photoshop contests I made a hobby of putting Wil Wheaton into images.

Lovable Sidekick@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are you banned from somewhere fun (casino, theme park, resort, cruise, etc)?English0·9 days agoJust remembered I got banned from Fark many years ago for posting this image (nsfw?) of a girl in a bodypainted soccer uniform without a NSFW tag. The reason was that unclothed nipples broke Fark’s rules. They didn’t buy my argument that in this case the bodypaint was as good as cloth. A mod explained that the NSFW tag was to keep people from getting fired while surfing Fark at work if their boss walked by and saw their screen. I argued that from that distance nobody could tell it wasn’t a uniform or a swimsuit, and the nipple standard didn’t achieve their purpose anyway, because an image with daring cleavage would be permissible even though a passing boss could easily recognize it from walking-by distance. At that point, rather than respond further they just made my temp ban permanent.
But the story had a happy ending! Somehow I found out about a new site called bannination.com, created by banned Farkers, using all-original code written by a guy named “grahams” in the UK. For a couple years I was an avid user of that site - which we affectionately called bN. The community was small - only a thousand or so members. Several people who met there actually got married. Then grahams finally got tired of running the server and shut it down. Apparently somebody got the domain name and it now points to something I can’t even take a guess at. Anyway for that brief time window bN was a super free place and we had a lot of fun.
