@Sparrowette As long as it continues to offer so much hatred for people offering to help, I don’t see how it can survive let alone thrive.

nanook@friendica.eskimo.comto Fediverse@lemmy.world•lemm.ee is shutting down at the end of this month23·2 days ago@Ledericas Unfortunately, this is often how it goes. The fact that I got some 30 or so dislikes and two SYN flood DoS attacks for simply offering my services I guess illustrates the make up of the crowd. Ah well, they will all relocate somewhere and life will go on.
nanook@friendica.eskimo.comto Fediverse@lemmy.world•lemm.ee is shutting down at the end of this month550·2 days ago@WatDabney @FrostyTrichs I started my friendica instance after facebook banned me for pointing out issues with the Covid-19 vax, then I started my mastodon instance after twatter did the same prior to Elon’s ownership. I’ve had some hardware issues along the way but we’ve got those straightened out. There seems to be the this false assumption on many peoples part that fediverse instances should be echo chambers like the old facebook and twitter were. I think it’s healthy for opposing viewpoints to be expressed, but I believe it is unhealthy to allow to degrade to ad hominem attacks, I run my sites accordingly, others don’t feel this way they prefer an echo chamber and there are instances that accommodate those folks well, and to me this is the beauty of the fediverse. I personally prefer long format posting because I don’t believe short format provides the opportunity for the depth of discussion needed to explore opposing view, historical perspective, cause and effect elaboration, etc, which is, of my nodes I spend most of my time on friendica. Friendica is however not efficient, it takes a lot of hardware resources to run it efficiently.

@Astella You don’t have to, or at least I don’t have to.
nanook@friendica.eskimo.comto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Advice for picking a PSU for server class GPUs? Also a question about adapter cable12·3 days ago@Smokeydope Please understand that a PSU is rated at the total power it can supply to 5v and 12v lines combined, but it can not supply that full power to both. And in my experience many brands of PSUs do not live up to their ratings. If you’re going to run a “beefy” GPU and CPU, I suggest going with 1000 watt or 1200 watt supply. If you are worried about an efficiency then go with a Platinum, they provide good efficiency even at low load levels. This will give you the overhead you need for your machine to run without strain.

nanook@friendica.eskimo.comto Fediverse@lemmy.world•The best thing you can do for the fediverse is just be kind01·27 days ago@Cris_Color A lot of people mistake kind for being fake and not ever expressing disagreement, but doing so neuters what is in my view one of the most valuable aspects of these federated social media, the potential for opposing view points to be expressed and then discussed and hopefully some mutually beneficial solutions that accommodate both sides of an opposing viewpoint can be arrived at. That can’t happen unless an environment is safe and inviting and people can act in a civilized manner.
nanook@friendica.eskimo.comto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Do you use other federated software besides Lemmy (e.g. Mastodon/Pixelfed/etc.), if so which?11·27 days ago@umbraroze @ALostInquirer On the Subject of pixelfed, I recently (about a month ago) brought up pixelfed.eskimo.com/, but I seem not to be able to get it to federate. Any tips?
It also protects them from a sense of personal responsibility knowing their true identity can’t be easily traced. This is what Mastodon doesn’t like about them.
nanook@friendica.eskimo.comto Fediverse@lemmy.world•What should the subset of the Fediverse that is Lemmy + Mbin + PieFed be called?01·1 month agoCensorverse… If you don’t tow the line we’ll de-federate you, this aspect of Lemmy defeats the entire purpose of federation, might as well just call it Facebook II.
nanook@friendica.eskimo.comto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Does it feel like the fediverse is exclusively used by older tech nerds?1·8 months agoPerhaps it’s because people under 30 have no sense of responsibility so don’t really care to communicate much with peers. They don’t have the means to bring systems like this online. They don’t have the historical perspective to take part in intelligent conversation, so they have Twitter and Facebook.
@The_Picard_Maneuver @FrostyTrichs I think this is a common attribute of the fediverse in general. Once a post has propagated to other sites, the non-existence of the originating site is not going to remove that post, but in some cases posts may contain references to images on the original site and the site that it propagated to may elect to reference images from the original site rather than store them locally. In that case, the new site will have the post but not images that it contained.
