They could bring these to smartphones since they removed sdcard from most phones. But, companies are greedy and want to upsell internal and cloud storage upgrades.

While I agree, they’ll still come to phones. Bragging rights about storage capacity is a big deal.

Once someone like Oppo/Xiomi do it, everyone else will have to offer it on at least one device.

I hope they do. 256GB of fixed is ridiculous not to mention the expensive upgrade to 512GB and 1TB(rare) they offer.

Depends where you live, phones with SD cards are common in many countries (availability isn’t tied to income levels or regional geography).

What’s a good midrange smartphone which includes one? Has long update support and a SOC atleast on par to dimensity 8300/ Snapdragon 7+ gen 3? I know about Sony and if you remove the slower soc fairphone 6.

Even samsung has started to remove them from their midrange A series lineup from this year. The S series removed them a long time ago.

Motorola does not include it in their Edge 60 Pro series smartphones only some midrange SKUs do.

Xiaomi’s HyperOS is a deal breaker so that’s not an option. This leaves very few options which can be considered.

It was news to me that Samsung A series removed SD card support! That was my go to solution for SD card supporting phones.

There is the Nothing CMF Phone, albeit SoC is weaker.

Other than that, yes, it would be Chinese brands.

I know I mentioned them in my comment. Unfortunately, Sony is available in limited countries.

    Long live gaming cartridges!

Oh wait it’s now “mini SSD” to give consoles fast removable storage…

Why not adapt m.2 connectors for hot swapping? The smallest form factor drives are already very small.
