Why in God’s name was Germany betting on Intel, currently the Boeing of chip makers?

I know that there is more involved than opinions of fanboys but at this point it’s been common knowledge for years that Intel has been making one fuckup after another, suffering from the “we’re at the top, now let’s just cash in and not give shits” attitude that so many other companies have had.
