I’d say have a standard that everyone can use should be the goal. If people want to customize their own setups, that’s on them.

Opening ports essentially allows other computers on the internet to initiate a connection with yours.

It’s only dangerous if a service running on those ports can be exploited.

Generally speaking, a lack of autonomy and inquisitiveness.
